Andrew Salway, Researcher

I am interested in computational approaches to understanding how stories function in different modalities and I work at the intersection of corpus-driven information extraction, multimedia content analysis and the fields of narratology and multimodality.  My research aims to develop technologies that enable people to search, browse and analyse digital media archives and the web in novel ways, and to develop data-driven research methodologies for the humanities and social sciences.

I have 15 years research experience and have written papers and given talks in the areas of multimedia information extraction, multimodal semiotics, narratology, information studies, corpus linguistics and audiovisual translation. Previously I was a Research Fellow at the Centre for Digital Video Processing, Dublin City University and a Lecturer in the Department of Computing, University of Surrey.
